President’s Message: September 6, 2015

September 6, 2015

Dear Tampa Tiger Bay Club Member:

Chris Ingram’s resignation from the Board of Directors has created a vacancy and the Board is excited to present Lee Lowry as its nominee to fill this vacancy.

Lee Lowry

As 2013-2014 President of The Junior League of Tampa (JLT), the influential women’s leadership and service organization with nearly 1,900 members, Lee Lowry spearheaded the creation of the highly successful Abolish Movement, a campaign to fight the crime of child sex trafficking, in partnership with Ad 2 Tampa Bay and the FREE Network. As a result of her passion for the issue and her reputation as a community leader, Ms. Lowry was appointed by Governor Rick Scott to the Florida Statewide Council on Human Trafficking in August 2014. She also serves on the Council’s subcommittee on Legislation and Special Initiatives and the planning committee for Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Human Trafficking Summit, to take place in October 2015.

Ms. Lowry’s other community leadership roles include: Vice Chair of the Hillsborough County Commission’s Citizens Advisory Committee, Children and Families Taskforce Chair of the State Public Affairs Board of the Junior Leagues of Florida, Board of Directors of Champions for Children, Advisory Board member of Eckerd Community Alternatives’ Friends of the Children, Advisory Board member of the Heart Gallery of Tampa Bay, and Board member of the Robinson High School Foundation. Past roles include serving as the Community Vice President and Finance Vice President of The Junior League of Tampa, as a member of the Tampa Hillsborough Homeless Initiative’s Taskforce on Youth Homelessness, and as a member of the Education Committee of the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.

Per Club rules, we will vote to confirm her at our September meeting. We will also accept nominations from the floor. Should other nominations be made, we will have an election, and not a confirmation, for the seat.

Finally, I remind Club members to RSVP well in advance of the meeting, especially if you are going to be making special request with regards to the food. Our caterer is very accommodating, but it can be extremely difficult to accommodate last-minute requests. As such, I encourage you to RSVP as early as possible.

As always, don’t be a spectator, be a Tiger!
